Tonight I was putzing around on the web trying to find my coding mojo. I went over to Dojo Campus to check out the Moveable Drag and Drop feature. It was kind of cool and it certainly gave me some ideas. Then I went to Chris Shiflett’s Blog for a dose of PHP security encouragement. In a post called Putting the Bow on OmniTI Chris discussed the addition of two new staff members at his company. It was all very normal, until I noticed the link below:

I’ve been to Smashing Magazine before and I’ve see these kinds of articles, but it struck me for the first time that I know very little about the science of effective design. Yes, yes, I know it’s all about artistic flair, etc, etc. That sounds good on paper, but the cynic in me says that there are probably basic tenants that all good designs adhere to. I just don’t know what they are.
If I were telling the truth then I might admit that I may never know how it works. I’m a coder by nature so the best solution for me is a repeatable one that just generates itself. Having said that, I’m interested in hearing your feedback on the subject. If you have read a good book about design, found an invaluable web site on the subject or you just seem to have a knack for it post a comment and let me know what you think. Maybe you can teach this not so old dog a new trick.
Peace
